5 Podcasts for Hollywood’s Awards Season
  + stars: | 2024-01-28 | by ( Emma Dibdin | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +4 min
The 2024 awards season has felt unusually hectic so far, thanks to the strike-delayed Emmy Awards shifting from their usual fall airdate to January. But even when there’s nothing quite so unusual going on, the analysis here always makes awards season more interesting. Starter episode: “Oscar Voters, Start Your Engines”There’s a peculiar category of film that debuts with great fanfare, attracts plenty of awards buzz, and then fades from the cultural consciousness without a trace (and no awards). Not all of the films discussed on “This Had Oscar Buzz” fall into that bracket, but, as the title suggests, the focus is on the movies that had that buzzy aura around them, at least for a while. Starter episode: “Alexander (With David Sims)”Though not a traditional awards season podcast with predictions or play-by-play recaps, “The Town” is an invaluable resource for anyone hoping to understand the upheaval in Hollywood.

It is a feat former President Donald Trump is trying to duplicate this year. The first true test of Trump’s comeback occurs Monday in Iowa, where caucusgoers will venture into sub-zero temperatures to choose between Trump, Florida Gov. After months of speculation, we’ll finally get some answers to a few questions: Is there an opening for any Republican aside from Trump? Most of our contributors thought Haley won Wednesday’s CNN debate in Iowa against DeSantis, but Trump’s absence from the stage again loomed large. “Haley sounded like someone looking to take on the genuine article — the Republican frontrunner,” wrote W. Golden Globes Winners 2024: The Complete List

Tuning into the Golden Globes this year meant more than catching a glimpse of the stars or getting an idea of what the Oscars might have in store. After the ethics, finance and diversity scandal within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association led to the cancellation of the 2022 broadcast, the Golden Globes were sold in 2023 and the Hollywood Foreign Press dissolved. So the looming question seemed to be: What impact would the show have this year under new ownership? In the end, some things went exactly as expected, others not so much.

It gained further international attention with the release last fall of Netflix’s “Vatican Girl” docuseries by filmmaker Mark Lewis. Among the documents was correspondence between Agostino Casaroli, then Vatican secretary of state, and a Colombian priest who had been the spiritual guide and confessor of the Orlandi family. Now the Orlandi family fears that the Vatican dossier does not include investigatory leads they hoped the Rome prosecutor would follow – primarily that the Vatican was somehow involved. The teenager was the daughter of a prominent Vatican employee and lived inside the fortified walls of Vatican City, where her mother still lives. Laura Sgro, the attorney for the Orlandi family, said at the press conference that the authorities had also cleared the uncle.

Murphy is known for his creation of hits from "Glee" to "9-1-1" and "American Horror Story" and serial-killer series "Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," which became one of Netflix's most-watched series of all time. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of entertainment journalists from overseas that, despite frequent missteps, built the Golden Globe Awards into a marquee event, died on Monday after a series of scandals. was announced after California officials agreed to a complicated reorganization plan that will allow the Golden Globe Awards to continue. Eldridge Industries, a holding company owned by the billionaire investor Todd Boehly, and Dick Clark Productions, which is part of Penske Media, agreed to buy the foreign press association’s Golden Globe assets for an undisclosed price. The proceeds will go to a new nonprofit, the Golden Globe Foundation, which will continue the H.F.P.A.’s philanthropic efforts; it gave more than $50 million to entertainment-related charities over the last three decades. Members of the foreign press association — primarily freelance entertainment journalists — will become employees of a yet-to-be-named for-profit entity that will try to expand the Golden Globes as a brand, according to an Eldridge spokesman.

Since then, various plans, including a short-lived idea for a tunnel, have come and gone – like water under the bridge. If built, the bridge across the Straits of Messina would span two miles (3.2 kilometers) and would be the longest suspension bridge in the world. When Salvini became transport minister, he made it his priority, betting his legacy on the bridge. “The bridge over the Strait of Messina is a project that can break ground immediately. ROME, March 6 (Reuters) - If striker Victor Osimhen manages to lead Napoli to their first Italian Serie A title in more than 30 years, he believes he will become a club "icon". However, if Napoli win the scudetto, he said: "I think (I) have a very big chance of being named an icon." With 13 games to go, Napoli are odds-on for Serie A glory, having a huge, 15-point advantage over second-placed Inter Milan. Some street hawkers are already selling mementoes in Napoli colours and with a "three" on them in anticipation of a third title. Golden Globe Award winners Steven Spielberg and Martin McDonagh pose with their prizes at the 80th edition of the annual show on Jan. 10, 2023, in Beverly Hills. Spielberg's autobiographical coming-of-age film "The Fabelmans" won best drama film and the dark friendship tale "The Banshees of Inisherin," captured best film, comedy or musical. The Globes' would-be comeback ended like many Globes ceremonies before it: with a triumphant Spielberg. Nominated 14 times by the Globes for best director, Spielberg also won the honor for the third time. Carmichael kicked off the 80th Golden Globes from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, with little of the fanfare that usually opens such ceremonies.
Golden Globes host Jerrod Carmichael said he was paid $500,000 for the gig during his monologue. For instance, Jimmy Kimmel said last year that he was paid $15,000 when he hosted the Oscars. Carmichael noted how he was "unfireable" because the Globes "haven't had a Black host in 79 years." You can watch his full, seven-minute monologue below:The hosting fee Carmichael claimed to earn is much higher than the typical compensation. "The Oscars pay you like chicken feed."
Host and comedian Jerrod Carmichael opened his monologue with a blunt assessment: that he was there because "I'm Black." Carmichael recalled being called by Golden Globes producer Stephen Hill and being asked to host the awards. On the silver carpet, this year’s Golden Globe winner for best actress in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Michelle Yeoh and “Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann also expressed the importance of celebrating all the talented people involved in Golden Globes. “I think it’s important because this is an international Golden Globe, right? Luhrmann echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I think the Golden Globes has really walked the walk, not just talked the talk.
The 2023 Golden Globes will be broadcast on January 10 at 8 p.m. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael will host the Golden Globes from the The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. "Severance," "The Bear," and "Wednesday" are among the new series up for Golden Globes for the first time. Here's a rundown of all your options to watch the Golden Globes live. Where to watch Golden Globes 2023You can watch the Golden Globes 2023 on NBC or through the Peacock streaming service on January 10 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
